FAQ

1.Does Academy run every week?

No. There will be no Academies on public and school holidays. Please consult our website for other holidays, such as term breaks.

2.Can I/my child still join in after the start of Academy Programme?

Pupils / adults are welcome to join in any time if there are places available. The price will be pro-rata basis. Please register through Academy Office directly.

3.How Much?

Most of Academies are RMB 100 or 150 per session, except:
Piano Beginners / Tennis: RMB 120 per session
Science Experiments: RMB 175 per session
Golf: RMB 180 per session
Calligraphy / Creative Arts / Creative Cartoon / Piano Advanced: RMB 200 per session
Cambridge English: RMB 225 per session (1.5hours)
Drum Percussion (1 on 1): RMB 240 per session (45min)

4.I have registered for this term, do I need to register again for next term?

Yes. All students need to re-register each term. If you attend an Academy in Lent Term, this does not guarantee you a place in Summer Term. Places will be given on a first come, first served basis. If an Academy is full, you can request to be added to the waiting list.

5.How to check the activities my child(ren) registered for?

You can find the detailed information, day/time/activity/campus, in the confirmation email sent from academy.tianjin@wellingtoncollege.cn.

6.What do I need to prepare for my child?

For all sports academies, please bring a bottle of water and light snack.
Football/Baseball – All pupils are required to wear sports clothes. Please bring both indoor and outdoor sports shoes. If the weather is bad and we move a session inside, outside football boots (cleats) are not allowed in indoor areas.
Swimming – please bring swim costume, swim cap, goggles and towel.
Tennis – please wear non-marking tennis shoes. The Academy will provide tennis rackets, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
Basketball/Netball – All pupils are required to wear sports clothes, please wear indoor non-marking sports shoes.

7.First Academy Session – where do I go (Monday – Friday)?

Football Classes
Please go directly to the football pitch outside or indoor sports centre when there’s bad weather.

Indoor Classes
All pupils will gather in the bus hall (small canteen), where the teacher or TA will take the children from/to the classroom..

8.First Academy Session – where do I go (Saturday)?

All Saturday Academies run in Wellington College International Tianjin campus, address: Wellington College No. 1 Yi De Road, Hongqiao District
Swimmers – please go directly to the swimming pool, follow the signage.
Football/Tennis/Basketball/Baseball – please go directly to relevant sports facility.
All other students should meet in the bus hall (small canteen) where you will be met by the relevant coaches.

9.What happens after my child’s Academy has finished?

Wellington College Tianjin Academy Programme is not offering bus service. The parents/guardian will have to arrive/ready 15 minutes prior to the finish of the pupils Academy. For most classes the TA will bring back the children from their classroom.

10.What happens if the weather/air quality is bad?

Just because the weather is bad, it does not necessarily mean an Academy is cancelled. In some cases, we have the ability to move outdoor activities inside.

According to Wellington policy, outdoor activities will be cancelled if the school pollution AQI reading is 200 or above. We will notify parents, teachers and pupils in advance in case of cancellation. Credit will be issued. .

11.Saturday Cancellation

The Academy Office will send out WeChat messages during the morning, preferable by 8.00am on Saturday if any Academies are cancelled. If you are unsure, please contact the Academy department by phone and/or WeChat. If you have not received any message, then your Academy is not cancelled and we will be running as usual.

12. If my child misses a session can i get a refund or credit?

For Wellington students only, credits will be issued when an approved school fixture or tournament requires the attendance of a pupil. However, parent should notify the Academy team via email at least 24 hours in advance. Refunds, credits or make up lessons will NOT be given for non-attendance of lessons for any other reason (including sick leave).
